European Flying Disc Federation (EFDF) formally institutionalized at founding assembly in Lecco, Italy

The European Flying Disc Federation (EFDF) is pleased to announce that its institutional and founding assembly as the Continental Association of the World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) for Europe was held on Wednesday, 23 July 2014, in the city of Lecco, Lombardy, Italy, on the occasion of the 2014 WFDF World Junior Ultimate Championships (WJUC).

EFDF´s aim is to provide a forum for all European Flying Disc sports and to represent these towards the European public-sector and sports institutions, in particular the European Olympic Committees (EOC) and the institutions of the European Union.

Eight European member associations of WFDF attended this meeting: Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, France, Italy, Netherlands, Sweden and Switzerland. In total EFDF counts 32 member associations in 31 countries.

The assembly elected their first statutory Executive Committee and Board of Directors:

  • Thomas Griesbaum (GER) - President
  • Andre Kruse (GER) - Vice President
  • Amandine Constant (FRA) – Secretary
  • Paul Eriksson (SWE) – Treasurer
  • Jana Vejmelkova (CZE) - at-Large Board Member.

The Board of Directors is completed by the ex-officio members representing the Flying Disc sports in Europe as at-Large Board members:

  • Andrea Furlan (AUT) for the European Ultimate Federation (EUF)
  • Pedro Vargas (POR) for the Beach Ultimate Lovers Aassociation (BULA-Europe
  • Paul Francz (SUI) for the European Disc Golf Federation (EDGF)

"With the institutionalization of EFDF all Flying Disc sports have taken a further important step to develop in Europe. We are very proud to contribute now formally the European part to WFDF´s efforts to receive the permanent IOC recognition“, commented EFDF President Thomas Griesbaum.

From August 3rd to 8th the European Ultimate Champions under 17 and under 20 were held in Frankfurt a.M., Germany.

While teams from the hosting nation Germany became European Ultimate Champions in both open divisions (u20 & u17) the ladies´ titles were awarded to Austria (Women U20) and the Netherlands (Girls U17).

While on Sunday 2nd of August 2015 the IOC at its 128th session granted the full recognition to WFDF, in Copenhagen the European Ultimate Championship 2015 came to a successful end.

Winning 2 gold (Mixed & Open) and 2 bronze medals Great Britain became the most successful nation 2015. Also Finland (Women), Denkmark (Open Masters) and Germany (Women's Masters) came off victorious.

The World Flying Disc Federation (“WFDF”) is pleased to announce that it is revising the eligibility age for female players participating in the Mixed Masters division, lowering it from 33 years to 30 years. The change was made to conform to the eligibility age that has been in place for the Women’s Masters division. “After lengthy discussion and a unanimous vote in favor, the WFDF Ultimate Committee had recommended that change, bringing the eligibility age for females participating in the Women’s Masters and Mixed Masters divisions to the same level, avoiding unnecessary confusion and inconsistency,” stated WFDF President Robert “Nob” Rauch.
The World Flying Disc Federation is pleased to announce that its Board of Directors has approved a new form of sanctioned competition, the international test match. An International Test Match is a bilateral game of Ultimate between teams representing two regular WFDF member associations. The 2018 EDGC has been awarded to Croatia. The EDGC Advisory Committee and the EDGF board forwarded the Croatian bid, specifically to follow our policy to alternate between north & south and east & west, but also in view of “expanding the European disc golf map”. Proposed date will be 15-18 August 2018 with days for travel and practice. Detailed agenda will be available at a later stage. The World Flying Disc Federation (“WFDF”) is pleased to announce that the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) has confirmed that it will sanction the WFDF 2017 World Team Disc Golf Championships (WTDGC) at the XA tier level.  In addition, team registration for the WTDGC has been extended to June 9th in the light of considerable interest from many countries that have asked for an extension to the registration process.  WTDGC will be held August 23-26 in Colchester, England and it will be hosted by DiscZoo.
